Linda Killgore, president and owner of Busy Bee Maids in Reston recommends regular vacuuming - daily for high-traffic areas -- to maintain the appearance of carpeting. She suggests investing in a good commercial vacuum cleaner.
“When you’re gonna have the carpets done... have it done right,” she ssys. “Have it completely, thoroughly cleaned. And part of that cleaning process, or the way that you save yourself money once a year is to make sure that you have a regular, thorough vacuuming program already initiated.”
People also should buy different spot removers for food and beverage-, pet- and grease-based carpet stains.
Killgore recommends a method for cleaning shower and tub floors, especially those made of fiberglass. After stopping up the drain, a person should fill the floor with 2 or 3 inches of hot water, then add a cup of bleach.
“You can let it set overnight while you’re sleeping,” she suggests. She prevents mold and mildew from developing on shower curtains and rubber bathmats by machine washing them on the hot water cycle with bleach and detergent.
