Poetry series at RCHS
“Boetry Spoken Here,” the video discussion series sponsored by the Rappahannock County Library, will continue next Tuesday, April 3, featuring Emily Dickenson. The group will view a video introduction, followed by a discussion led by RCHS English teacher Jon Heddleston. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. On April 10 the group will discuss Robert Frost, and on April 17 the focus will be e.e. cummings. The last meeting, on April 24, will feature original poetry written by the program’s participants. Benefit auction for SVFD
The Sperry ville Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a benefit auction on Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at the fire hall. Anyone wishing to donate items should contact C.B. Johnson at 987-8264 or Tim Falls at 987-8142.
Dance at Amissville
The band Nightfall will be playing for a dance sponsored by the Amissville Fire Department on Saturday, March 31 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. You must be 21 and proper dress is required. For reservations call Sheila Scott at 937-4357.
Lions Club auction
The Lions Club will hold its annual benefit auction on Saturday, May 12 at the Washington fire hall, beginning at 6 p.m. Residents are asked to save their usable items for donation to this event. More information will be available shortly about pick-ups of donations; watch this space for details.
Breakfast, Easter egg hunt
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will hold an all-youcan-eat breakfast, 7 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 14 (please note date change from April 7) at the fire hall. The buffet menu will include scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage and gravy, bacon, hash browns and fried apples, with juice, coffee and milk. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children, available at the door or in advance from any fire department member. A free Easter egg hunt will begin at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to age groups 3 and under, 4-6 and 7-10. The Easter Bunny will also put in an appearance.
Old Dominion Hunt
Old Dominion Hunt point-to-point races will be held on Saturday, April 7 beginning at noon and on Sunday, April 8 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Ben Venue race course. Admission on Saturday is $5 for adults and children under 12 are free. There wall be no admission charge to the Sunday races. For more information call (703) 347-0603 or (703) 364-1339.
RCES Book Fair
The Rappahannock County Elementary School library is holding a book fair from Thursday, March 29 to Thursday, April 5. A wide selection of high quality, high interest paperback books for children will be for sale in the library. There are also items of interest for adults, including gift, craft, and activity books. Profits from the book fair will be used for books and materials for the Library. The public is invited to attend the fair during regular school hours, 8:30 to 3:30, each day. “Encourage your child to read by supporting the book fair,” said Librarian Aney Massie.
Choreography workshop
Jonathan Wolken, founder of the internationally acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Company, will be offering a Choreoghraphy/Dance Workshop Saturday, March 31st and Sunday, April 1st from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the studio of Sally Nash in Sperryville. The emphasis of the workshop will be on improvisation, experimentation, cooperation and creativity. Both beginners and advanced dancers are welcome. Tuition is $55. There is a limit of 18 participants. Call Laurie Marshall at 6753267 to register.
