Several years ago the Rappahannock Education Association, representing the county’s public school teachers, challenged the School Board to bring Rappahannock’s salaries up to the average of the surrounding counties.
To a significant extent that goal has been achieved.
Rappahannock’s beginning teachers’ salaries are somewhat below those of surrounding counties, and salaries of the most experienced teachers lag far behind those offered in most surrounding counties. However, for teachers in the mid levels of teaching experience Rappahannock’s salaries range above the average of our nearby neighbors.
A comparison between salaries offered in Rappahannock with the average of those offered in Culpeper, Madison, Page, Warren, and Fauquier counties shows that Rappahannock teachers earn less than the average of the counties around us in for the first three years, but beginning with a teacher’s fourth year, with three years of experience, he will begin to earn more than that average.
