The Rappahannock Lions Club is a service organization, not a social one.
The club operates the sight and hearing van (which screened school children here recently; it contributes to a variety of school projects — the annual trip to Williamsburg by the seventh grade (an educational event lasting 4 days) — The Bland Music Contest (productive of truly gifted musicians); it assists our fire and rescue outfits; it assists the Social Services Department in distributing Christmas baskets; it contributes to the Lions Hearing Foundation (one procedure this organization does to restore hearing to the totally deaf costs $30,000).
In short — the Lions provide services and needs to the community that otherwise would not be met — by government or anyone else.
As always, it takes money, and our club does this in two ways. In fall we make apple butter, a truly high grade product — a project unique to our area.
In the spring, about now, we run an auction, selling off all manner of goods — curtains, drapes, rugs, couches, sofas, chairs, tables, lamps, box springs, folding beds, desks, appliances of all kinds, bric-a-brac —
