Early release schedule

As the school year draws to a close, the Rappahannock County Public Schools will observe an early release schedule for the final days of classes. On Thursday, June 7 classes will be released at 2 p.m. On Friday, June 8, classes will be released at 11:30 a.m. This change, according to Superintendent David Gangel, is necessary due to the new exam schedule resulting from the seven-period day and the lack of a teacher work day prior to graduation, which will be held Saturday, June 9.

Newspaper recycling returns

County Administrator John McCarthy announced this week that the county has reached an agreement with Cellin Inc. of Culpeper to collect newspapers for recycling at the county landfill. According to recycling coordinator Nina Stamer, newspapers will be accepted if they are either bundled in paper grocery bags or loose. No twine, natural or otherwise, will be accepted. Papers should not be left in plastic grocery bags. The trailer will accept anything delivered with the newspaper, she said, but will not take cardboard, telephone books or slick magazines. Dinosaur tracks on tour

The Virginia Museum of Natural History is conducting guided tours to the Culpeper Stone Quarry to see the dinosaur tracks discovered there last year. Nearly 2,000 tracks of different species have been discovered on the six-acre site. The final tours will be held this weekend, June 9 and ; 40. Advance tickets are $4 for museum members, $5 for others, and tickets at the gate are $6. For safety reasons no children under six years of age will be allowed on the tour. ; -
