Wearing the traditional gowns of commencement, Rappahannock County High School seniors will march forward Saturday, June 9 at 10 a.m. and receive their diplomas, taking their place as alumni of the Class of 1990.
This year’s featured speaker, chosen by the senior class members, is local weather watcher, Sperryville resident and familiar high school world geography and government teacher Dennis Wingfield.
“This has been a very good class,” Rappahannock High School principal John Toth said, adding the average sized-class has contributed both academically and athletically to the school.
This year graduates, numbering 70, are eligible to receive more than 15 scholarships ranging in value from $250 to over $500. Two new scholarships abe given this year; the Earth Gallery Award sponsored and given by Bruce Wetteroth from the Earth Gallery in Washington, Virginia, and the other the Rappahannock County Public Schools Math, Science and Engineering Scholarship sponsored by Robert Darby of Woodville and presented by Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Gangel.
This year, Rappahannock County High School boasts one of the coveted National Merit Scholarship winners, Elizabeth Oliver, as the 1990 class valedictorian.
Ms. Oliver, the daughter of William and Lucy Oliver of Woodville, claims a 4.0 academic average and plans to attend Virginia Polytechnic and State University in
