using low-fat yogurt in snacks and desserts:
• For a truly nutritious, low-calorie treat, spoon an eight-ounce container of nonfat, plain yogurt over one cup ripe strawberries. The yogurt contains 35 percent of the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance of calcium for adults, and the cup of strawberries contains more than the RDA of vitamin C for all groups. This makes a good breakfast, too!
• When dessert recipes call for buttermilk, milk or even water, substitute equal parts of yogurt instead. When added to certain cake, cookie and pudding recipes, yogurt produces a rich, moist consistency and an added boost of calcium.
