Deciding architecture was her calling at age nine, Miss Oliver said she has always liked to draw floor plans and design houses. “I look forward to the challenge of college,” the 17-year-old senior said, adding the prospect of attending a large school is exciting. “I’m not really nervous about entering a large school,” she said, adding she chose VA. Tech because the colleges within the school are organized on a small scale and classmates become familiar with peers. Besides, she added, laughing, “we’re a ‘Hokie’ family,” explaining that both parents and her older brother are Tech graduates.
Active in 4-H activities, president of the 4-H Livestock Club as well as a member of the Teen Club, team leader and a volunteer, Miss Oliver also had parts of two school plays and is a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the Rappahannock County High School Varsity volleyball team and 1989-90 co-captain with peer and saludatorian, Elizabeth Conover.
Ms. Conover, with a 3.8 academic average, daughter of Frances Conover of Flint Hill, plans to be a doctor. She, too, will attend Virginia Tech but in the pre-med field.
