• Whip up a healthy version of two all-American ice cream favorites. Slim down a sundae by substituting a cup of plain or vanilla yogurt for ice cream. Top with fresh fruit and sprinkle with blanched almonds. Create a low-fat banana split by cutting a banana lengthwise, placing in banana boat and covering with slices of fresh strawberries and whole blueberries. Top with a well-shaken banana or other fruit-flavored yogurt.

Minimize the overly sweet taste of confectioner’s sugar in frostings by substituting an equal amount of yogurt for the liquid ingredient. Or use a spoonful of lemon or vanilla yogurt as a light topping for spice cake, pound cake or angel food cake.

• For a decadent dessert with a healthy twist, drizzle two tablespoons of hot fudge over a cup of non-fat plain yogurt (total Calories 234) or vanilla or coffee yogurt (total calories 324).

These recipes are some that I’ve tried and recommend. I made the Frozen Yogurt over Memorial Day Weekend using strawberries instead of peaches and my family and guests liked it a lot.

The Honey of a Yogurt Pie is a June-is-Dairy-Month recipe contest winner from several years back. The honey gives it such a good flavor that it’s one of my favorite summertime desserts to make.
