One consideration in moving to the “whole language” program is the cost of these books. From one of the primary publishers of materials for “whole language" instruction, the “big books” cost $24 each, and a set of six of the smaller books costs $20. These are all paperback books.
Some sets of these books were bought this year, and the teachers report that the children were very receptive to them. More money has been set aside to purchase additional books next year.
