Plant Sale to Benefit RAAC

RAAC will have a “Perennial Plant Sale” at the Apple Harvest Festival in Sperryville, on October 5 & 6. The Sale will feature divisions of plants from some of the finest gardens in Rappahannock. Anyone willing to share some of there plant dividings with RAAC for this sale, please call Donna Brune at 675-3183 or Eileen Day 675-3033. All proceeds go to benefit the performing arts in the area.

Culinary Hearts kitchen course

This four-week course, developed by the American Heart Association, will cover basic principles of nutrition, food selection and preparation, ways to modify your favorite recipes, menu planning at home and when you dine out and when entertaining. Participants will see recipe demonstrations and be able to taste a variety of dishes. The classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rappahannock Extension Office, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 11 and continuing through Nov. 1. The registration fee is $15 per student. Apple harvest festival

The annual Apple Harvest Festival, sponsored by the Sperryville Business Council will be held Oct. 6 and 7 throughout Sperryville in both the old town section and the shops along Highway 211. The times of the events will coincide with each shops business hours which will be 10-6 Saturday and Sunday. Apple butter boiling, basket weaving, antique sales, live music, crafts, wine tasting and story telling.

Homecoming at RCHS

The Rappahannock County High School will hold homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 20 beginning at 2 p.m. against Wakefield School. A dance will follow the game from 8 to 11 p.m. All alumni are invited to attend both events. For more information call Freda Herman at RCHS, 987-8575.

Flint Hill harvest dinner

The Flint Hill Ladies Auxiliary will be serving a harvest dinner of turkey, ham, dressing and all the trimmings on Saturday, Oct. 20 beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Flint Hill fire hall. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under.

Animal League to meet

The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington fire hall. All members and interested persons are urged to attend.

Riding lessons available

Conference at First Baptist

There will be a deacons and ministers union conference on Sunday, Sept. 30 at First Baptist Church beginning at 10 a.m. The pastor 8 is Rev. W. R. Grant.

Family portraits

The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a family portrait session on Oct. 27 and 28. The 10x13 canvas textured portraits valued at $59 will be available for only $5. Certificates are available from any member of the fire department. “They will make excellent Christmas gifts,” said an organizer. Dinner for foster families

The Rappahannock County Department of Social Services is organizing a dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 3 for residents interested in becoming foster parents. The department, according to director Beverly Bowen, hopes to establish a pool of families which can be used in emergency situations when children must be removed from homes with little or no advance notice. Those interested in becoming foster parents on a long-term basis are also encouraged to attend. The dinner, sponsored by Trinity Episcopal and Washington Baptist churches, will be held at the Washington fire hall at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Bowen and counselor John Borgens will speak about foster parenting.
