To the editor:
The Seventh Congressional District is indeed fortunate to have a representative in the United States Congress with the background, experience, integrity, overall qualifications, and proven ability of D. French Slaughter Jr.
Mr. Slaughter is a native of Culpeper County; member of the Episcopal Church; educated at Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia; a combat infantry veteran; and recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Slaughter has served this area well for a long time. Prior to his three terms in Congress, he was a distinquished member of the Virginia House of Delegates for 20 years where he was a member of the influential Appropriations Committee and chief patron of the Community College Act.
On the contrary, his opponent’s qualifications are almost nil. It has been suggested by many that Mr. Smith is the most inexperienced and least qualified of any candidate who has ever aspired to a Virginia seat in the Congress of the United States.
