The village of Amissville, located on US 211, 11 miles west of Warrenton in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, will celebrate its 180th birthday with a festival and craft show this weekend, Sept. 29-30, at the fire hall and carnival grounds. Hours on Saturday are 9 to 4 (entertainment until 7 p.m.) and Sunday 12 to 6. Admission is free! The event will be held rain or shine.
On Saturday, special guests Congressman French Slaughter will attend from 2 to 3, Senator Kevin Miller from 1 to 2:30 and Delegate Andy Guest from 10 to 12. Local supervisor Col. Ellis Bingham will attend throughout the weekend.
In addition to the numerous crafts, an antique-classic car show will be held throughout the weekend. Awards for the “Oldest,” “Longest Distance,” and “Peoples Choice” will be presented at 2 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. (Vehicles should be present before 12 on Saturday and before 2 on Sunday.) No entry fee charged.
Live entertainment will be held throughout the weekend, including gospel, blues, country blue-grass, southern and classical rock.
Blood cholesterol and blood pressure checks will be conducted throughout the weekend. (For cholesterol, there is a $5 processing fee; one should have fasted for 12 hours.) The Health booth will be manned by nurses from Culpeper Health Department on Saturday and Rappahannock Health Department and Amissville Rescue personnel on Sunday.
The Wonderful World of Miniature Horses will be available from noon to 4 on Saturday.
Wilson’s Pet Farm will have animals throughout the weekend.
