The Rappahannock Monarchs beat the Woodstock Raiders 12-9 to clinch the championship of the Apple Valley Baseball League.
Rappahannock swept Woodstock in the best-of-five series, 3-0.
In the final game, Anthony Porter led the Monarch offense with five hits, including a double. His brother Jeff was the winning pitcher, while Moses Jones finished up the game af. ter relieving Porter in the seventh inning.

begins year

The Chester Gap 4-H Club held its first meeting of the year on Sept. 12 at the Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department.
The meeting featured a presentation by Alice Reeve, a member of the county’s 4-H Teen Club, who talked about her 4-H International Exchange trip to Germany this past summer.
The club also elected officers for the coming year. The new officers are Janie Wines, president; Christy Mills, vice-president; Amber Early, secretary and Candy Stonebreaker, reporter.
The club’s adult leader is Mayr belle Gilkey and the recreation 1 leader is Randy Early.
Youth in the Chester Gap area interested in joining the 4-H Club are invited to contact a club member or adult leader for more information about the club and its activities, or call the Rappahannock County Exn tension Office in Washington (675- 3619).
