Virginia Association for Hospices’ Legislative Committee, Tina Hackney Weaver, comments, “It is quite a relief to finally complete this process. It has taken three years of hard work to meet the 53 pages of regulations. We are proud to tell the public that an outside party has scrutinized our policies, organization, and patient care finding no areas of concern. This verifies what Hospice of the Rapidan’s patients and families knew — we give excellent care.”
Hospice of the Rapidan is also Medicare certified. All Medicare Part A beneficiaries are eligible for the Hospice Medicare Benefit after admission to the hospice program.
Under the Benefit, hospice provides nursing care, medical social services, counseling services, shortterm in-patient care, medical equipment, home health aide services, drugs, and bereavement counseling. Medicare reimburses the hospice with no deductible from the patient.
“Patients and their families find the Medicare Benefit too good to be true,” said Ms. Weaver. “They are amazed and so grateful when the rental equipment and drug bills stop. For some families it alleviates the need to wipe out a lifetime of savings.”
“We are very grateful for the communities’ support. Without generous donations and United Way’s support, Hospice may not have survived the licensure and Medicare process,” she added.
