Rappahannock real estate agent Roger Batchelder has pledged an additional $1,000 to the reward being offered for information on the killing of a pair of bald eagles, found dumped near Sperryville last month.
And a Palmyra couple, Norman Goldberg and Carole Marchesano, added another $1,000 to the reward, it was announced Tuesday.
Those donations bring to $9,000 the standing reward for information that leads to a conviction.
In a somewhat related incident, another bald eagle was killed recently near Richmond, Ed Clark said. Mr. Clark, president of the Wildlife Center of Virginia, said the method of killing was different and “there is no reason to think there is a connection, but with three eagles killed in a two-week period, it is not an isolated incident. There is a problem and a serious threat to the recovery of the bald eagle.”
Mr. Clark said he knew of no new leads in the Rappahannock case. The Shenandoah National Park is the center of a “well-organized and egregious illegal trade focused on wildlife,” he said.
