As April days move closer to the beginning of May, the 13th annual Fodderstack 10-K Classic nears.
The annual run, beginning in Flint Hill and ending in historic Washington, via scenic Fodderstack Road, is sponsored by the Rappahannock Recreational Facilities Authority and funded by various groups.
The race begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27.
Pre-registration is $12.50, payable to Rappahannock Recreational Authority, P.O. Box 124, Flint Hill, Va. 22627. Registration the day of the race begins at 8:30 a.m. in Flint Hill. Registration is $15 the day of the race.
Transportation from Washington to Flint Hill is available, leaving from in front of the court house at 9 a.m. Parking in Flint Hill is limited.
Trophies in eight categories with two larger trophies to honor the first male and female Rappahannock finishers are given. Trophies this year — mugs with bands of color to represent finished place — are made by Meryl Strange of Viewtown. Eva L. Smith trophies are ginger jars.
Inviting walkers and runners alike, this year the March Of Dimes will hold WalkAmerica in conjunction with the annual Fodderstack 10-K. This is the largest fund-raiser for the organization with over 30 million people from over 1,400 communities nationt ally. Sign-up slips are available at most area stores, government offices and farm supply outlets. J Those interested can obtain support through pledges and win prizes for the most pledges gained.
