We’re experiencing more springlike weather with the temperature highs falling into the 60’s. While the weekend rains may have dampened weekend activities, it was a blessing to area farmers. The area looks like a picture post card with the blooming of the dogwood and red-bud trees, azaleas, and tulips. Canada geese have begun nesting.
This week’s activities include:
Thursday, April 18, Girl Scouts meeting, call Janet at 937-4222 for time and place (program for next 4 weeks will be on “Outdoor Skills” in preparation for camp.)
Friday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Health and Fitness Class at United Methodist Church.
Revival services will be held at Amissville Methodist at 7:30 Sunday, April 21 through Tuesday, the 23rd with Rev. Pat Olsen of Lignum. Special music will be featured each evening.
Looking ahead, the Fodderstack 10K race will be run on Saturday, April 27; registration begins at 9 a.m. and race at 10 a.m. in Flint Hill on Rt. 522, ending in Washington via Fodderstack Road. Applications available at local businesses or call 675-3342 for an application. Pre-registration is $12.50; day of race $15.
Also on April 27, opening day ceremonies for Rappahannock Athletic Association (Little League) begins at 1 p.m. at Stuart Field.
Another important event on April 27 at 6 p.m. is the Volunteer Fire Department’s auction. Drop items by the firehouse or call Roger Cordani at 937-5739 or Scott Hensley 937-4577.
In other Fire Dept, news, a new president and vice president were recently elected. Jack Atkins is president and Scott Hensley vicepresident, following the resignations of David Sheffield and Carroll Settle.
In order to have more time to sell tickets, anyone interested in running for Honorary Fire Chief and court should contact contest coordinator Donna Sheffield at 937-5595. Boys and girls ages 3 to 20, from local or surrounding areas, are eligible. The following contestants have signed up. If you wish to vote for any of them by purchasing tickets for $1 each, send a check payable to Amissville Volunteer Fire Dept., along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope, to Donna Sheffield, Rt. 1, Box 142-A, Viewtown, Va. 22746.
