On February 3 Black Oak Regular Baptist Church located on Rt. 729 held a surprise anniversary party for their pastor, Elder Wayne Richards and wife.
The party for Elder Richards was in observance of his twenty five years as pastor, having become pastor of Black Oak in January 1966. Hymns sang for his first service included Face to Face, Draw Me Nearer, He Leadeth Me and Rescue the Perishing, all of which were repeated for this service and his first message there was taken from scripture in Titus.
Each Sunday School teacher including Sandy Goodall, Betty Smith, Barbara Tharp and Marie Atkins along with their students had a party on the program.
Elder Roger Smith, assistant pastor, was master of ceremonies.
When Elder Richards became a Christian and uiiited with the Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church of Luray, Elder Wayne Thompson was pastoring there and it was a great honor to have him present for this anniversary to bring the message to one of his sons in the ministry, which he did using as his text Rememberances, with scripture taken from II Timothy 1:1-3.
Pastor and Mrs. Richards received several gifts from the church and these were presented by Sister Daisy Lucas, the oldest member; Brothers Owen Cubbage and John Dodson, deacons and by Marc Dodson, grandson of the Richard’s who presented a gift on behalf of the
