He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., grew up in Norfolk and moved to Charlottesville upon graduation from law school.
His public service record includes five years (1965-1970) on the Charlottesville School Board, four years as secretary of the Charlottesville Housing Authority and a 30year affiliation with the Charlottesville Democratic Committee.
He is a retired commander in the Naval Reserves.
