The Rappahannock High track team registered five first-place finishes during a April 3 tri-meet againt Strasburg and Brentsville at Nokesville.
Junior Ryan Welch took firsts in the long jump and triple jump, senior Matt Eidson was first in the mile and two-mile and senior Chris Stringfellow was first in the shot put and second in the discus.
According to track coach Doug Hunter, Welch’s performance was no surprise.
“He’s already thrown over the school record in practice,” said Hunter.
All three: Welch, Eidson and Stringfellow, are expected to reach the state competition this spring, said Hunter.
Other strong performances were turned in by freshman Jason Waters, third in the two-mile; senior Jeremy Tole, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles; and ninth-grader Sherri Thomas, who was second in the girls’ mile.
Eighth-grader Jessica Arnold was fourth in the mile, but being an underclassman her points‘;ere not counted.
The team continued to register strong individual performances during its April 10 tri-meet against George Mason and Manassas Park at Manassas.
