Highlight of the event will be the Salute to the Troops ceremony at-2 p.m. honoring all troops of all wars. It is hoped most of our area troops participating in Desert Storm will be home for the event.

Ann and Frank McWhirt of Chestnut Hills Christmas tree farm are donating potted magnolia, black walnut, Chinese hybrid chestnut, Scotch pine, white pine and Norway spruce trees to the Ruritans for sale at the event.

United Methodist Women’s annual yard and bake sale will be held May 18, 9 to 2.

Dr. Lee Cobbs advises he has seen numerous cows down this spring due to unusual weather. He recommends feeding them high magnesium salt along with grain at the rate of two ounces per head, per day for two or three days.

Congratulations to Sharon and Sheila Scott who were recently certified as Cardiac Technicians.

Also congratulations to Amy Kellert, Keith Switzer, and Willie Eastham upon receiving awards during the regional science fair.

Johnny Franklin and Vickie Lynn Miller are the proud parents of their first child, Caleb Jonathan, bom April 5. He weighed eight pounds, 13 1/2 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Leon and Brenda Mosier of Potosi, Missouri. Maternal great-grandparents are Lorrayne and the late Hosea Whitten of Yuma, Arizona and Martha and the late Dick Gregory of Potosi, Missouri.

Paternal grandparents are Carroll and Jane Weaver of Amissville.

The community was saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Mort Colvin on Thursday. Funeral services wera conducted on Sunday at United; Methodist Church by Rev. Stev^; Parker and Rev. Peter Weems.
