'We kill

eagles'

To the Editor:

With rage and sadness, I wonder what man wants on this earth? We fight wars to liberate countries and refuse to help the refugees from the defeated country. We refuse to house the homeless. We refuse to feed our children. We shrink in horror at the thought of higher taxes to finance education, mental health programs, social services and programs for the disabled. We are in such a hurry that we will try to run over a man carrying a replica of the cross on Good Friday. We empty car ashtrays in people’s driveways. We throw our garbage on the sides of roads. We snicker at the reports of the depleted ozone layer. We refuse to ban handguns. We insist on keeping a frontier mentality even in our most populated cities. We revel in the misfortune of others. We are unhappy unless we are building another road or erecting another development. We are unaware that the Constitution was written for all of us. We kill eagles!

Good time

for advice

To the Editor:

With the recent change of editors and letters that have criticised the Rappahannock News, it seems a good time to write with my own suggestions. This is not a criticism of the outgoing editor or the new one, just some suggestions for improvement.
