The Board of Supervisors approved the school budget as presented and decided to advertise the county budget at the current real estate tax rate of 77 cents per hundred.
At a budget work session last week they also decided to cut the Library Board’s request. The Library Board asked the county to increase its contribution to the library ftind by $8,152 to $28,603. The supervisors decided to hold the increase to $4,000.
The supervisors expressed frustration with the way the Library Board handles its money.
County Administrator John McCarthy said, “The Library Board’s money doesn’t flow through us, and it probably should. All the funds going to the Library Board and coming from the Library Board should first go through the treasurer.”
Wally Cox, whose accounting firm contracts with the county to handle its budget and audit, said, “I believe legally the county treasurer is the Library Board’s treasurer, but she can’t be if she doesn’t get the money.”
