Going into Tuesday night’s softball game against Stonewall Jackson-Mount Jackson, the Rappahannock High girls softball team needed only one win in their last three games to clinch one of four district playoff spots.
The girls won all three games last week, beating Clarke 6-2, Central 2-0 and George Mason 19-4 in five innings.
Against Clarke April 30 the Lady Panthers revenged an earlier loss by racking up 11 hits — pitcher Susan Payne only allowed three.
Defensively they retired 13 of Clarke’s last 14 batters.
