When Robb ran for senator, his opponent, Maurice Dawkins, made little use of the rumors about Robb and the matter seemed to have faded away except for the efforts of a private detective to publish a book about his alleged findings about Robb’s involvement.
Then NBC-TV launched a trash television show called “Expose” that sent a crew to Virginia to dig into the Robb story. It defended its investigation on grounds Robb holds a high public office and is often mentioned as a possible presidential candidate.
Previous rumors had Robb linked, among others, to a woman named Tai Collins, a model who had teen Miss Virginia and Miss USA and had met Robb several times.
Though Robb denied any romantic involvement with Ms. Collins, she told both NBC and The Washington Post that while Robb was governor in 1984 she met him at a New York hotel and they had sexual intercourse. Robb denied the allegation, though he said he and Ms. Collins shared a bottle of wine and she gave him a massage before he asked her to desist.
