board. The supervisors do not want to take that money away, but they feel that because of it, the Library Board is not presenting the county with a full picture of the library’s finances.
“Five or six years ago the library was more or less self supporting,” Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes said.
Stonewall-Hawthom District representative Robert Anderson noted that the library had asked for county help in order to qualify for funds from the state.
TTie supervisors agreed to accept Hampton District representative Mike Massie’s suggestion that the county fund about half of the increase.
“It’s still the biggest percentage increase of any county budget except the landfill,” Mr. McCarthy noted.
Mr. Massie noted that when the Library Board first approached the county about building a new library they claimed that it would cost less to operate than the current library because one person would be able to view the entire area and the new building
