Mr. Moore said he expected the portion from Washington to the Covington Ri^er bridge to be advertised in July with construction to start by late summer. The second portion from the Covington River bridge to just east of Sperryville would be delayed for a year, until July 1992, because of cutbacks in funds for the department, he said.

When Chairman Hubert Gilkey asked him about highway department help with the enhanced E-911 system, Mr. Moore said they would no longer put up or maintain road signs for the system.

The supervisors agreed to sponsor a contest to design a county seal. Mr. McCarthy said he had been approached by several people interested in designing a seal for the county.

The supervisors agreed to advertise for entries to be submitted by June 28. At their July 1 meeting they will review the entries, which will be available for the public to view during the month of July. At the August meeting the supervisors will hold a public hearing and select a seal for the county.

The supervisors also agreed to consider constructing a bulletin board to be placed on the courthouse or town hall lot to hold notices of upcoming public meetings, public hearings and notices of projects going out to bid.

In other business the Board of Supervisors:

• Adopted a resolution to hold a joint public hearing with the Town of Washington to consider “straddle lots.”

• Approved a letter to be sent to Mr. Moore asking him to strictly enforce existing highway department specifications for private driveway entrances onto public roads.

• Along with the Town Council approved the integrated solid waste management plan prepared for the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District.

• Approved a raffle permit for the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community.
