Jonathan Shapiro, Mr. Allison’s retained attorney who was later converted into a court-paid attorney by U.S. District Court Judge Alfred V Bryan Jr., said, “The government tried to portray the guy as violent and ruthless. But that wasn’t supported by the evidence.”
He said Allison was not a kingpin and that the judge was justified in throwing out that charge. “My strategy was, and what the judge accepted was that there were a lot of people who were friends buying and selling cocaine. . . .There was a buyer-seller relationship. There were a lot of them, but that’s all it was.”
