Students from Wakefield School competed in the Certamen held at Thomas Dale School and the Latin I team placed first in the Advanced Divisions.
Team coach Marilyn Welch said that the students were “unbelievable.”
The team was made up of Kirsten Burton and Stephanie Harre of Warrenton, Christina Cheney of Manassas, and Welby Lynn of Washington.
Two Latin II Experienced teams won awards. The team, composed of Meredith Fascett of Warrenton, Tim Inglis of Washington, Daniel Logie of Front Royal, and Sandeep Ranade of Culpeper, won a fourth-place medal.
Colby Cowherd of Culpeper and Jeremy Thorpe of Amissville bravely competed despite the absence of the two other team members and won a fifth place medal.
The following week, the students competed in the 22nd Annual Latin Bowl at the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore.
