School Superintendent David Gangel said, “It’s wonderful that Brion was recognized. He’s an incredibly selfless person. You can count on him to be the one who always has the students’ best interests at heart. It’s a tremendous honor to have him in our schools.”
Dr. Gangel also noted that with the addition of 15 more computers, Rappahannock may well become the school system in the state with the best ratio of students per computer.
Mr. Patterson said he and high school librarian Beth Scott first became interested in seeking a grant for this project when they noticed students struggling to write research papers on computers when they weren’t familiar with the computer keyboard.
He said he has already selected the teachers to work with him on the project: Mrs. Scott because she is familiar with computer networking, high school math and computer programming teacher Helen LaCave because she has experience teaching computer classes to younger students, high school teacher Mike Tupper because he teaches keyboarding, and elementary teacher Amy Wolf because she is used to working with younger students.
