Carnival
kicks off
the season
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department Carnival May 27-30 features, rides, games, a parade and the crowning of the queen.
West Virginia Amusements, the same company that has provided the rides for the last two years, returns to the U.S. 211 fairgrounds. A new’ policy: all riders ride all night, all four nights, for only $5.
The parade May 28 starts south of town on U.S. 522, heads north past the Comer Store, and turns left on U.S. 211 by the Rescue Squad building.
The queen is crowned and the raffle prizes are awarded Saturday, May 30.
There will be plenty of food for sale, and all proceeds benefit the fire department.
The Sperry ville Volunteer Fire Department, founded in 1047, has about 25 members who answer close to 100 calls a year.
The annual carnival, the county’s first of the season, provides 30-40 percent of the department’s annual operating budget.
