pahannock County High School at the Virginia Track and Field Meet held Saturday in Lynchburg each captured a state title. Thomas, who has won every mile race which he has entered, again took his mile in a blazing time of 4:26. This was the first time he had been pushed with real competition. Kevin Cropp of Parry McClure High was second in the race only a few yards behind. After the race Thomas said, “I was determined he was not going to beat me.” This is the second state title for Thomas in the mile. Wade Frazier took the two-ile run to bring home a state victory. In the fifth lap, Wade passed Billy Ward of Vista High,who was the previous state champ in this event. Frazier said, when asked how he felt when he passed Ward: “He was just going too slowly for me, so I passed him.” This is the first state title for him.
A public hearing on the budget for Rappahannock County for the fiscal year 1972-1973 will take place Thursday, June 1, in conjunction with the regular June meeting of the Board of Supervisors. The budget which totals $1,117,740 is an increase from a year ago of more than $86,000; however, the levy of $4.10 per hundred valuation was maintained.
