On May 11 an Old Hollow woman found the subject in her kitchen after she left her home briefly to collect the mail. He was filling her fivegallon bucket with food, said Maj. Streapy. She told him he could not have the food, but made him a meal, and he left.
The next day the same woman observed the man hiding behind a large boxwood, and called the Sheriff’s Office. She also called a neighbor, and the man was apparently scared off before police could arrive.
Most recently, someone (thought to be the same man) broke into another cabin over the May 16-17 weekend and took some food. He also took a shower, said Mqj. Streapy.
Authorities with Shenandoah National Park are also involved in the investigation. The man may be the same person observed in the backyard of a Rileyville home (in Page County).
“We want people to take extra precautions,” said Maj. Streapy. “We certainly don’t want people letting him in their house. ”
He said the man is not thought to be dangerous. “He hasn’t hurt anyone yet, and I don’t think he intends to,” said Maj. Streapy.
“I believe he’s living in the mountains. In the park part or in the county part, I can’t say,” said Maj. Streapy.
In other police and court news this week:
• No charges were placed following a two-car accident on U.S. 211, two-tenths of a mile west of Route 640, at 7 a.m. May 18, according to Trooper C.M. Hodges of the State Police.
Karen Maria Ludwig of Flint Hill was operating a 1980 AMC station wagon eastbound on U.S. 211 when a 1983 Ford, operated by Amanda Mae Rinker of Amissville, pulled into her path from the crossover.
Both vehicles were completely destroyed.
