“Another try at having the best of both worlds,” she explained.
At present, Ms. Marsh and Ms. Laurie can accommodate groups of five, and while they’re still looking for a few good horses to add to their string, they don’t plan on growing by much.
“We’re aiming for seven max— we want to be able to give impromptu lessons as we go along, and that’s about as many as we could handle,” Ms. Laurie said.
It’s obvious that Ms. Marsh and Ms. Laurie love their jobs. As the partners work, their smiles are as big and as constant as the smiles on the faces of the two little girls who are—at last—achieving their dreams of learning to ride.
“Sometimes, 1 have to pinch myself in order to prove this is real,” said Ms. Laurie. “It seems like only yesterday we were sitting around in the kitchen, brainstorming ideas for finding a career in the country. ‘We like horses. We’re good with horses. Let’d do it with horses,’ we told ourselves. So we did.”
“And it’s working!” Ms. Marsh added.
