Dodson hit a triple and Brock Hodges contributed a two-RBI single. Astros pitcher Andy Sheads had six strike-outs, and Pirates pitcher Dodson had a no-hitter with eight K’s. Jona Bonar made a great catch in center field.
The Orioles got strong defensive efforts by Bruce Flinchum and Ashley Miller as well as double-homerun efforts by Ronnie Bouchette and Timmy Muldoon to win easily over the Tigers May 16. For the Tigers, Brian Dental and Jason Smith had four-baggers.
The Tigers and Lions scored a total of 44 runs before the Tigers prevailed, 23-21. For the Tigers, Jason Smith had two home runs, Christopher Blouin had one, and Jamie Boner had two. Eva Mills had two assisted outs on defense. The Lions had a total of nine home runs, two by Ralph Pace, two by Tony Starks, two by E.J. Johnson, and one each by Brian Brown, Ryan Donald and Ben Kelly. The Lions’ Jonathan Bankston made two outs at third and Whitney Craig made a great catch on a fly ball.
In a rain-delayed game at Pullen Field May 16, the Cubs won 14-6 behind some excellent defense by Jason Paul. For the Lions, Nathan Corbin had a good base-hit to third, and contributed by being the pitchers’ helper.
The Lil Orioles got a home run and good D from Eric Phillips and three outs by Katie Reynolds at second base for the May 14 win over the Cubs. The Cubs’ Criag Neff turned a tough double play at first and Ashlyn Paul hit a hard single for an RBI.
Monarchs drop game,
host Woodstock Sunday
The Rappahannock Monarchs mens’ baseball team was edged out by Edinburg this week, 7-5. Phillip Daczewitz led Rappahannock with a three-run homer and a double, while Reggie Williams added three singles.
A three-run homer by Edinburg in the top of the sixth provided the margin.
Timmy Palmer was the winning pitcher and Stoney Frye Jr. took the loss for the Monarchs.
Rappahannock is at home at 2 p.m. Sunday against the Woodstock Raiders at Pine Knot Field.
