“Vintage Virginia ’92—the 11th Annual Virginia Wineries Festival,” takes place June 6 and June 7 at Great Meadow Field Events Center in The Plains.
The festival features a unique blend of wine tasting, entertainment, arts and crafts, food and fun. It has grown to be one of the largest and most popular wine and food festivals in the country.
“Virginia is home to so many great traditions. It is wonderful to see that Virginia wine is fast becoming one of them,” observed Julia Child, honorary chairman of this year’s festival.
“Vintage Virginia” offers wine sampling from 35 Virginia wineries, 80 arts and crafts exhibits, regional food, music, grape stomping and more. This looks to be the best year ever, as “the quality of the 1991 vintage,” according to Tom Matthews of “The Wine Spectator,” “should confirm Virginia’s position as the most accomplished of America’s emerging wine regions.”
Three stages of live music, sponsored in part by WJZE Jazzy 100 FM, will feature the folk-rock duo of Down Boy Down, the reggae gyrations of George Wesley and the Irietations, Dixieland-style jazz by festival regulars the Ponchartrain New Orleans Jazz Band and modern jazz by D.C. locals Ritmo Junction. The Fearless Airborne Coryury will also return this year with his unique mixture of comedy and juggling performances throughout both days.
Tickets for the smorgasbord of wine, food and fun at “Vintage Virginia ’92” can be purchased by calling 1-800-277-CORK. For persons over 21 years old, tickets are (18 in advance, $15 at the gate. For everyone under 21 (who cannot be served wine), tickets are $3. Children under two are admitted free.
