“We’re still young, and we’re going to be young next year too,” said Coach Tupper. “I feel overall it’s been an improvement over last year.”
The Panthers ended the campaign on an up note, crushing Strasburg 10-0 last week in a game that saw sophomore pitcher J.C. Welch one-hit the Rams. Welch finished the year with the pitching staffs best stats: a 3-0-1 record and a 3.75 earned-run average.
This season the Panthers struggled at times at the plate, but the defense solidified and gave up dramatically fewer errors. “Our defense improved tremendously,” said Coach Tupper. “Errors weren’t the rule this year. We got consistent pitching. But we just didn’t hit the ball as well this year as we did last year."
