The members of the Rappahannock County Library’s Summer Reading Team are having a lot of fur and are making great strides towards their goal of 1,000 books. The Rappahannock National Bank has pledged $1 per book read, up to $1,000, as a part of this summer’s program. This money will go towards the library’s building fund.
Pat Biggs of NASA opened this year’s program with an entertaining and informative presentation one space and the astronauts. He brought models of the space shuttle and satellites. The children were especially-fascinated with the samples of space food and explanations ol how the astronauts had to handle their food to prevent it floating away.
Cindy Andreoni amused and delighted the children with her poems, stories and songs, especially “Peanut Butter.” All of the children participated in the strange word matchup and learned a new meaning for the word frog.
Mr. Magic was a big hit! Parents and children alike were amazed by his feats of magic. He had a wand that changed colors after it was placed in a bag, a rope that could be cut in two and magically become one piece again, coins that bounced around the room and landed in his hand, and the mystical water from India.
One hundred and six people came to hear storyteller Mike Dunnigan present a program on “Great Races.” He started by telling the participants a brief history of the Olympics.
