Mr. Baumgardner noted that the septic system cannot take any additional use, and so the space above the store building cannot be rented out as an apartment, and the bathroom in the store is not available to the public. He said also that the interior of the building is unfinished and not in good condition.

The appraiser noted that there had been no sales of comparable property to use as a guideline to an appraisal. He said that the property would be worth less than its assessed value based either on the cost to rebuild it or on its potential for rental income.

Mr. Hopkins urged board members to come look at the property and also look at the interior or the store building.

The appraisers who did the county’s assessment cannot enter buildings and thus assessments of buildings are based on their exteriors.

Board members said they would visit the property and look at the interior.

Two landowners tried to get the board to reconsider their assessments after the board had already considered them and acted on their appeals. Mr. Warner said that the board could not consider these properties again and that if the landowners were not satisfied they could appeal their assessments to the circuit court.

Of the 76 cases the Equalization Board had heard before last Friday, they sustained the original assessment for 54, decreased the assessment for 16 and increased it for six.

The board decided to hear additional appeals on Friday Aug. 14 and Monday Aug. 17‘
