Issues such as affordable health care, government accountability, education, world famine, the drying up of our natural resources and a black cloud of national debt that threatens future generations for years to come are the problems that draw the members of the group together. They are like a support of sorts that is determined to move towards solutions — with or without a candidate or a formal party framework from which to work.
Virginians for Perot, in many ways, represents this country’s best aspects. It is democracy at work. Twenty to 30 million volunteers are pledging their support to the candidates who share their vision of‘getting America back on track.* They say they will mount a grass roots, door-to-door campaign, in support of their candidates (be they Democrat, Republican or Independent), certainly not an endeavor for the fainthearted.
While Ross Perot’s brief moment on the national scene will soon fade from memory, the political movement he engendered could ultimately prove to be significant and far reaching.
