The Board of Supervisors almost voted Monday afternoon to accept “fluff,” the residue from chopping up cars to recycle the steel, at the landfill, but then the board decided to table the issue for two weeks and consider it again at a special meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 17.
County Administrator John McCarthy said the county could enter into a contract with Davis Industries of tjorton to accept tip to Witons of ” fluff a day. He suggested that the county ask for $25 per ton from the company, which is now paying $23 per ton plus transportation expenses to truck the material to a private landfill near Richmond.
He reported that the state Department of Waste Management had approved Rappahannock’s request to be allowed to accept fluff at the landfill and request to use a material like Fabri-soil as a daily cover.
