mark of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. It treats with wry humor social attitudes which seem as persistent today as they were over 100 years ago.

Gilbert caricatures the English obsession with class and status. He fashioned the play’s main character, Sir Joseph Porter, after a contemporary First Lord of the Admiralty who had absolutely no experience at sea.

Playing the role of Sir Joseph Porter in Interacts production is veteran actor, Ralph Cosham, an Arena Stage company member who recently performed in “The Visit" at Arena. Cosham was seen at The Theatre at Washington last summer in “The Pirates of Penzance.”
