oration is actually a revival of a grand celebration held Aug. 17, 1929, by Madison County residents to honor the Hoovers and thank them for “noticing and helping the county.” Residents credited the Hoovers with general advancements in transportation, education, recreation and economic growth, and showed their appreciation with a celebration that drew a crowd larger than the county’s total population.
This year’s celebration will also include the one-woman dramatic presentation, “Lady Lou,” a portrayal of First Lady Lou Henry Hoover.
“Hoover Days” gives visitors an opportunity to explore the “Camp David of the Hoover Administration” and learn about the remarkable couple whose far-reaching visions of the future helped preserve the country’s resources. Hoover was instrumental in the establishment of Shenandoah National Park as well as the construction of Skyline Drive.
