California is a long way to travel to participate in national Latin competition, but rising ninth grader Welby Lynn of Wakefield Country Day School has earned not only the right to compete but also the means to get there. One of 1,300 delegates expected at the National Junior Classical League convention held Aug. 2-7 at San Diego State University, Miss Lynn has pooled several year-end awards to pay for her trip to the convention.
The 14-year old has been given a $100 scholarship by the state Junior Classical League to attend the national JCL convention. She is one of 13 young Virginians selected for the award on the basis of potential, achievement, and need.
