The Express’s initial service will provide four round trips on each line Monday through Friday, with inbound service during the morning rush period and outbound service in the evening rush. Service schedules are timed to accommodate work starts at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 8:30 a.m., and 9 a.m. and work day finishes at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
A daily trip from Fredericksburg to Union Station takes about one hour and 20 minutes. A daily trip from Broad Run-Airport to Union Station takes about one hour and 15 minutes. A trip from Woodbridge to Union Station is about 45 minutes.
While daily ridership between the two lines is 2,000, VRE expects 4,500 by the end of its first year.
“Given the extreme highway congestion and substantial housing development in the outlying Washington Metropolitan area, this figure is likely to be conservative,” according to the VRE.
