Clean up
dumpster site
To the Editor:
A couple of years ago when the dumpster debate was hot and current, I adopted a personal policy of cleaning the area around my truck each time I visited the dumpster. A few feet fore and aft of the bumpers describes my self-appointed beat. The last time I was there I measured the amount of time it took me to clean up this little area - 80 seconds.
In contrast, this letter has taken me about two hours to complete, the equivalent of 90 sessions at the box, or one and a half years of dumpster cleanup.
Now some people might maintain ' (no doubt correctly) that I am a far more talented trash collector than a writer, and that a real writer would have a very different ratio of writing to cleanup time, an assertion I will not dispute.
However I think my point still stands: that if a significant percentage (oh, say, 25 percent) of the dumpstering population were to adopt this simple device we would have continually clean collection sites.
