Mr. Baughan noted that this would bring the capacity of the high school to approximately 500. He added, however, that standards require 12 square feet per student in the cafeteria.
The cafeteria at the high school can handle 216 at a sitting under those standards. He said as enrollment approached 450 the school system should consider expanding the cafeteria or adding another lunch sitting.
Included in the estimates for the additions were $50,000 at each school to increase the water supply and $150,000 to increase the sewage disposal at the high school.
Finally Mr. Baughan estimated that a new middle school with a capacity of 500 students for fifth through eighth grades would cost $4.2 million. This would include 20 regular classrooms and nine classrooms for special programs. It would also include a kitchen and cafeteria, gymnasium, including locker rooms and showers, administrative space, and a library.
