The area premiere of an awardwinning play, “Third Child,” will open at The Theatre at Washington, Va., on Nov. 7. The spirited, Washington, D.C.,-centered drama concerns an American diplomat and his wife and children, who try to absorb into their home a fiery teenage girl from the streets of a Central American city.
With wit and humor, the play confronts some of the multicultural issues raised in this year of Christopher Columbus celebrations. “Third Child” is winner of two prestigious national playwriting competitions - the Margo Jones Award and the Jane Chambers Contest. The play runs through Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.
The D.C.-based authors of “Third Child,” Charlotte Anker and Irene Rosenberg Wurtzel, wrote the book and lyrics for the Broadway musical, “Onward Victoria.” The play’s director, Roland Reed, has directed more than 100 major productions and is director of the Graduate Playwriting Program at Catholic University.
