George Downs Sr.
George Richard Downs Sr., 63, of New Market, died Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.
The funeral was conducted Monday, Oct. 26 at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson by the Rev. William B. Day Jr. Burial was in Mt. Jackson Cemetery.
Mr. Downs was bom June 5, 1929, at Fairfax, the son of the late James Raymond Downs Sr. and Gladys Sherwood Downs. He was a dispatcher for the Northern Virginia Electric Co-op in Manassas.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Magdalene Scotta Downs; one daughter, Deborah Marie Mitchell of New Market; two sons, James Martin Downs Sr. of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. and George Richard Downs Jr. of Manassas; one sister, Marjorie Sanborn of Front Royal; two brothers, James Raymond Downs Jr. of Sperry ville and John Franklin Downs of Manassas and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Martin Downs Sr., George Richard Downs Jr., Wallace Clinton Michael Jr., James Sanborn, Steve Downs and James Martin Downs Jr.
